Why This Role Is Different
If you’re looking for another Laravel job where you’ll spend your days working through tickets, this probably isn’t it. If you’d rather own architecture, solve challenging engineering problems and help shape the future of a platform used by thousands of businesses worldwide, we’d love to hear from you.
About LabelWorx
Founded in 2007, we are the world’s leading distributor specialising in Dance & Electronic music with a vision to simplify success and amplify Dance music globally.
We build and operate the technology behind one of the world’s leading electronic music distribution platforms. Our engineering team owns every aspect of the platform from database design and backend architecture to frontend development, infrastructure, automation and deployment, giving developers real ownership and the opportunity to make a lasting impact.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer to work directly with our CTO and leadership team to take ownership of the architecture, development and future direction of our core platforms.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, improving systems and making architectural decisions. You will help shape the future of our platform while remaining actively involved in designing, building and delivering new features.
As LabelWorx grows, you’ll help recruit, mentor and build the engineering team around you.
What You Will Do
Our platform processes millions of lines of music sales and streaming data every day, integrating with the world’s largest digital music services and powering software used by thousands of record labels worldwide.
This is not a role where you will simply implement tickets. You will be trusted to make architectural decisions, solve complex engineering problems and shape the future of our platform. You will have the freedom to influence how we build software and the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the business.
You will be directly involved with:
- Design, architect, develop and evolve our core Laravel/PHP platform.
- Lead technical design and architecture decisions.
- Build scalable, high-performance systems and APIs.
- Optimise MySQL databases and application performance.
- Improve reliability, security and development processes.
- Collaborate with product stakeholders to deliver new features.
- Evaluate and adopt technologies that improve our products and engineering practices.
- Mentor developers and promote engineering best practices.
Our Technology
We believe in keeping our technology modern and continually invest in improving our platform. Our stack includes:
- Latest stable PHP & Laravel
- MySQL
- Redis & Laravel Horizon
- Ubuntu Linux & Nginx
- Livewire
- Alpine.js
- Tailwind CSS
- PHPUnit & Bitbucket Pipelines
We encourage developers to use modern tooling that helps them write better software
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has extensive commercial experience building and maintaining large-scale PHP/Laravel applications.
- Enjoys owning technical problems from concept through to deployment.
- Has a strong understanding of software architecture, API design and database optimisation.
- Writes clean, maintainable and well-tested code.
- Is comfortable working across the full application stack.
- Takes ownership and enjoys improving systems rather than simply maintaining them.
- Communicates well and enjoys working collaboratively.
- Is interested in mentoring others and helping shape the future of our engineering team.
Experience with Linux server administration, Redis, queue-based processing, CI/CD pipelines or large-scale data processing would be advantageous, but we’re more interested in hiring an exceptional engineer than someone who ticks every box.
Why Join LabelWorx?
We’re a small engineering team with a strong focus on technical excellence. We value clean code, modern tooling, thoughtful architecture and giving engineers the autonomy to make the right technical decisions.
- Work on software used by thousands of record labels worldwide.
- Directly influence the architecture and future direction of our platform.
- Work with a modern, continually evolving technology stack.
- Enjoy genuine technical ownership and autonomy.
- Help build and lead the future engineering team.
- Flexible remote working.
- Competitive salary, pension and performance-related benefits.
- Annual pay reviews.
- Voucher schemes, including Cycle to Work and Tech for Work.
- Additional annual leave based on length of service.
- Annual professional development budget for conferences, training and industry events worldwide.
- Your birthday off every year.
If you’re an experienced engineer looking for genuine technical ownership, interesting engineering challenges and the opportunity to make a lasting impact, we’d love to hear from you.
